May 1-2: Summit Point

Pat #233

Lucky for us the weather held out all weekend! Predicted rain never happened during race time. It rained a good bit saturday night but not until well after the races were over, and the track dried out completely by mid-morning sunday.

Middleweight GP amateur, saturday May 1 - I was gridded on the 4th row, got a pretty decent start, and made a good move getting inside for turn 1, and for turn 4/5 which is my favorite part of this track. I ended the first lap remaining in about 5th place. Started running some consistent laps, but made a few mistakes on the last few laps and a few guys got by me including one guy right before the stripe. I finished 9th place out of about 25-30 bikes.

Lightweight GP amateur, sunday May 2 - After checking the grid sheet after the riders meeting, I was unhappy to find that only 6 racers were in my class. I got out there for the race and only 4 racers were on the grid! Well we took off after the experts from a 2nd wave start. I got a great launch and settled into some good laps, in 2nd place. A few laps later we were catching up to some experts, and I made my move on the brakes to take 1st place. I only led for a lap or two until the race was red flagged for a bike down in the middle of the track entering turn 6. We were past the halfway mark, so the race was over. I picked up 1st place and some valuable points. What I noticed after coming out of turn 9 at red flag speed was a huge woodchuck in the middle of the track! He had been freshly nailed as I didn't see it the last lap and it was still twitching....... anyways, I digress, it was a great race and I picked up the pace a bit, ran my fastest lap of the weekend which was nice. Still need quicker laps though..... they will come.
