June 24-25: VIR,
CCS/FUSA
Andy #93
Started loading stuff up and when it came to the bike I had (2) flats on brand new rubber... So I check them out and find the NEW metal stems are leaking... jerk the wheels off the bike take them back to the shop that did the work and they hooked me up properly this
time. The stems I had put in were not compatible with my Honda wheels...Go figure... Finally left the house about 6PM thurs night...Skyler
(Son) was my ride-along buddy... Arrived @ 11pm got some help from Fever & the gang getting unloaded...THANKS GUYS...!!! Figured out the NEW AVALANCHE TENT...(Pretty cool setup) hit the sack...
Fri Prac: Session 1 of 2... 1st time on Bridgestones...Not really sure what to expect since I am used to the Pirellis...Anyway go out and give her a go for a while...Bike feels real good for 3 to 4 laps and then it was like vaseline on a baboons ASS... Thought that I just wasn't used to them...went and checked my times and much to my
surprise I was running .48's. I felt like I was riding my ass off out there and all I could muster was a lousy .48... Second session was
little better, but still only managed HIGH .44's...Man was I getting PISSED...I knew I was better than that, but couldn't prove it on the clock...
Race #2 ULSS: Guy almost clipped me on the warm up lap pulling a bonehead move on the outside of the blind left hander on the back section
T11. Anyway he snapped it back so hard he was in tank slap mode right in front of me... went off into the grass to make a remarkable save... I got a decent start coming out of T1 in 12th...Didn't stay there for long
though. By the end of the only 2 consecutive laps we had I was dead LAST and PISSED... Mr. tank slap looked me up and apologized after the
race. I just wasn't feeling it...
Sat Prac: Could not muster anything better than a .44.732...Made a quick change back to the Pirellis to see if it was me or the
'wubba, for the next race. Never even rode the DOT's on this bike...Slicks only...
Race 11a ULSB: Got a pretty good start though but not as good as I wanted...Dave got by me and of course had to wave... That kinda set the tone right there...We had a really great battle for the rest of the race...I did return the wave on the front straight of course...
Johnny Lobster had a front row seat for the whole thing and Dave got us on VIDEO...
(Which I haven't seen)...YET... Once I got by Dave I checked out according to Lobster...I had a blast and finished 13th in my 1st completed expert race...And I busted out some
.40's...THE BRIDGESTONES JUST AIN'T FOR ME...
The 600 guys I talked to did not have the same issues as me in the grip dept...
I did forget to mention that the Arclight boys and the M4 EMGO boys were
wheelying past me in the short chute between t3 & t4...
Also talked to Aaron Stevenson of Cornerspeeed and he told me that t4, t17 & 17a are getting repaved over the winter months...t4 was covered in sealer but still tons of grip...
Trap speeds in the UL & SB races were between 165 & 175...
I'll be looking for .25's @ Summit...
Adam had a pretty good get off in T13 and ended up lying in 14 bike facing the opposite way...Timmy said all he saw was bike in the air...Bike + air = BAD...I'm sure
Adam will post pics and give details when he feels up to it...I'm glad all came home safe...Not a real good wk-end for the Gixxer.com gang...Although some great gains were made by all...
