Race reports

April 10-11: VIR

Andy #327

This was my 1st wk-end of racing...!!!

I started off Friday morning with my Cornerspeed school which was great...They teach you alot and Mucho Track Time...8 20 min sessions + the "Mock Race" of 4 laps...Once we got familiar with the track and the speeds came up they took us out for the " No Brakes Drill ", Which was pretty hairy for about 30% of the class...They had ( Agricultural experiences )...  Most of the people in the class were on Race Rubber except for our head Instructor, He was on Pirelli Diablo's (Street Compound) and they looked great after all the track time we did... One of our instructors was one of the brothers from Tapewerks, he was fast as shit...!!! The instructors came out during the mock race and threw some curves to the students to see how they would react in certain situations like (Taking your lines away & stuffing you @ the last second)...  It was a great class @ I highly recommend it...!!! The ratio of students to instructors was 3 to 1 so you get plenty of 1 on 1...!!!

Middleweight GP amateur, saturday April 10 -

Sat I decided to do MWGP just in case the skies opened up on Sunday... I had to change gearing, change my throttle slide (It Broke)...  and adjust all of the cables to fit the 1/5 turn throttle tube off a R6 (Thanks Justin)...  And thanks to Fever, Jp and the others who helped get me ready for my race...Missed practice...So, Out I go for my 1st event cold as ice...I was gridded 36th out of 39...  I had no warmers so it took me a while to get up to speed... Once up to speed I got "Knocked" off line up onto the gator strips in turn 5 on the last lap (Dude hit me so hard he knocked my foot off of the peg)...
Well when I got to turn 16 his bike was doing peiroets @ an elevation of about 10'...I rolled on by grinnin from ear to ear... (Justice)...I ended up finishing 30th...I started out with a lap time of 1:59.6 and ended with a best lap of 1:53.6 Shaved off 6 seconds...
Stayed up till like 1 am doing the Teamate Duty with JP and BMF putting the TZ back together after I finished with some Fiberglass work on the upper...!!!

Middleweight Superbike amateur, sunday April 11 -

Sunday was Damn cold and cloudy as hell!!! ( Sucked Azz)...I was the third race of the day MWSB...Poor grid due to post Registration... I was gridded 29th of 31...I got a much better start this time...I passed a couple of guys going into turn 1 late on the brakes and got a few more the next couple of laps...I felt like I was really picking up the pace when all of the sudden going into turn 10 (Hard Blind Left Hander) my throttle slide & kill switch housing comes half way off the bar @ around 90+ mph...   on lap 5...I shoved it back on in turn 11 and keep on rolling but at a much slower pace than before...I rode like that for 3 fucking laps...I finished without incident...My lap times started as a 1:55.3 and my best that race was a 1:48.6...  Another 5 seconds off of my starting times...  For the record I dropped 11 seconds off of my initial lap time... Finished 25th
